A Modest Proposal

The complete name of Jonathon Swifts essay is " A Modest Proposal: For preventing the children of poor people in Ireland from being a burden to their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to the public, tells half the story.

This is a satire to top all satires. Swifts recommendation is to fatten up the poor children and sell them at market to feed the wealthy absentee landowners. This would not only solve overpopulation but unemployment issues as well. The perfect social, political and economic solution.

"Satire is a literary technique of writing or art which exposes the follies of its subject (for example, individuals, organizations, or states) to ridicule, often as an intended means of provoking or preventing change". (
